Night Sweating

If you have ever woken up during the night, or in the morning, and felt excess sweat on you after going to bed dry, chances are you are classified as a sufferer of night sweating. Night sweating effects many people who do not necessarily suffer from other sweating symptoms during the daylight hours or under other circumstances.

Night sweating can come under many different levels. Those with basic or low level night sweating are considered to have perhaps moist palms, neck or armpits upon waking up. On the other hand, extreme night sweating symptoms can involve waking up to wet sheet, wet pyjamas or night clothes and wet pillows from neck and face sweat.

For people who sleep in a bed with a partner or spouse, night sweating can take on a embarrassing new level. Excess sweating beside another person can lead to awkward circumstances and problem sleeping for both parties. The excess night sweater will be conscious of not letting sweat and perspiration getting onto the other person during the night. The other person will of course seldom appreciate a night sweater sharing their problem so closely with them. Often it can lead to division of relationships, or arguments and resentment if the issue is not solved.

In addition, night sweating can lead to many more sleeping complications. Often, night sweating leads to snoring, poor sleep patterns and restless sleep. The body is conscious of the sweating, and the person will inadvertantly toss and turn during the night to try and get more comfortable. The semi-conscious auto-elieviation of the night sweating problems can be horrible and lead to lack of sleep and tiredness during day light hours. Obviously this presents problems for those who are required to work normal day jobs!

So, now that we know a little more about night sweating, what sort of factors lead to us experiencing the problem? Fortunitly, the causes can be quite simple, and thus they are easy to fix. This is not always the case, and chronic or persistant night sweating must be treated by other means. For most cases though, people will be best off trying the following night sweating remedies as a first step:

Try and sleep with airflow in the bedroom. Even in colder climates, airflow is very important. Keep that window ajar.

Avoid cheap sheets such as lycra or polyester blends. They are heavy, and cling to the body, constricting movement and air space

Always have your mattress elevated on a base. Alot of night sweating is from no airflow and to much heat under the mattress.

Silk sheets, while expensive, are light and breathe exceptionally well. Try them out if your budget allows.

Shower before bed on hotter nights. The water will wick away and open pores, which provides air entry into the skins layers.

Go to bed when you are tired. Mental or physical exhaustion relaxes the body and initiates quality sleep.

Drink water before bed. Avoid milk or sweet drinks that elevate the heart rate and trigger night sweating.

For those who suffer extreme, unprovoked night sweating (such as rapid onset of hot flashes) the treatment process may have to be a bit more extensive. For those who suffer from this very severe form of night sweating, you are better to try a medicinal treatment such as that recommended on our homepage. Stop Sweating, Start Living has a very good track record for treating the symptoms of severe night sweating in a variety of paitents of all ages.

The onset of severe night sweating (called Idiopathic hyperhidrosis) can be bought on by a range of processes or changes. The most common are hormonal, where the body simply produces sweat in vast quantities with no descernable trigger events. Menopause is a classic trigger for the onset of this condition. Teenage years where hormones are elevated is also problematic in many cases.

As mentioned above, if you think your night sweating is more severe than the cases that can be remedied by changing environmental factors in your room or sleeping patterns, take a look at Stop Sweating Start Living. From customer responses, it is your best shot at curing the horrible night sweating problems that effect people like you.
